Led from within. Built step by step.
"Moringa Yetu" means "Our Moringa", and the name is chosen because the project belongs to the community.
YRUD began in 2018, when young refugees in Nakivale started helping their neighbours. Today, Justin Buma leads it from inside the settlement, guided by one principle: nothing for us without us.
Phase 1
The pilot
Nursery beds, tools and a hands-on workshop where people plant, tend, harvest and eat.
Phase 2
A cooperative?
Only if the pilot shows it can work. We will share what we learn either way.
Your gift helps pay for: locally sourced seeds, grow bags and nursery beds, tools, local transport, and six months of power and internet for Justin's base.
With thanks to Rona Dixon-Bowden and Icosa Moringa, who support this pilot as part of YRUD's International Board of Advisors.
